I am an international student. How will changes in the Trump administration affect me?

There may be potential changes that will impact immigration. As an international student, it is important that you:

  • Stay informed by relying on credible information sources; these include the university’s International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), government websites likeUSCIS.gov, and reputable legal professionals rather than social media or outdated advice.
  • Maintain your legal student immigration status; comply with all regulations.
  • Prepare for the possibility of longer visa processing and wait times.
  • Request necessary documents such as I-20s or DS-2019s early.
  • Avoid unauthorized work.
  • Document and maintain a record of your academic achievements.
  • Promptly report any address changes or academic program changes, including obtaining approvals for reduced course loads if needed.
  • Plan ahead for long-term immigration options such as H-1B visas if you are interested in post-graduation employment.
  • Seek legal counsel for complex cases.
