What is the difference between official and unofficial transcripts in the application process?

In the application process, official and unofficial transcripts serve different purposes:

  1. Official Transcripts:
    • These are issued directly by your institution and sent to CU Denver in a sealed envelope or through a secure electronic delivery system.
    • Official transcripts are required for final admission decisions and verification of academic credentials.
    • They must be received directly from the issuing institution (or a school official for secondary school) to be considered valid.
  2. Unofficial Transcripts:
    • These can be copies or scans of your original transcripts that you upload during the application process.
    • Unofficial transcripts allow for preliminary review and admission decisions but do not replace the need for official documents.
    • You may use them as placeholders until your official transcripts arrive.
